ICS and Sociology Department Program will hold the 2nd International Seminar

ICS and The Sociology Study Program of Mataram University will hold an international seminar on November 16-17, 2022, which takes the theme “Community Development, Religious Tradition and Contemporary Technology”. This second international seminar will be held in two places, namely at the Dome Building of Mataram University on November 16, 2022, and at Merumatta Hotel Senggigi on November 17, 2022. This seminar invited several scholars and experts from the international community such as from the UK, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam.

The event is planned to be opened by the Rector of Mataram University Prof. Dr. Bambang Hari Kusumo and the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Dr. Zulkieflimansyah. The keynote speakers are TGB. Dr. Muhammad Zainul Majid, MA, Rector of IAIH Hamzanwadi Pancor, chairman of NWDI and chairman of Al-Azhar Alumni Association. He will speak about religious moderation and changes in the religious traditions of the Sasak people. On the first day of November 16, there are also three invited speakers who will share their knowledge and expertise, namely Prof. Dr. Gazi Mahabubul Alam, a professor of education policy and economics at University Putra Malaysia, Selangor. He is also a visiting professor and academic consultant at the University of Malaya (UM). Prof. Gazi is also the editor-in-chief of Pertanika Journal. The other speaker was Dr. Evi Nurvidya Arifin, a senior assistant professor at the Centre for Advanced Research (CARe), Universiti Brunei Darussalam. In addition, Dr. Rosiady Sayuti, chairman of Unram’s Sociology Study Program and former NTB Regional Secretary was also a speaker on that day.

On November 17, 2022, there were three “invited speakers” on this day namely Prof. Dr. Luky Adrianto, researcher at the Department of MSP, FPIK-IPB / Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies IPB University. The other speaker was Jonathan D. Smith, visiting researcher, CRCS UGM & visiting research fellow University of Leeds. In addition, Dr. Saipul Hamdi, lecturer in Sociology and Director of the Center for Islamic Culture and Society (ICS) Studies at Mataram University will also present his research results related to transnational Islamic movements in a sociological perspective. After these three presenters present, the second session will be followed by a panel discussion from all speakers who have registered in this seminar.

To provide broad access to participants and presenters, the committee provides a 50% discount for the first 25 registrants, and free for online participants and presenters. Offline participants will be entertained by Lombok art dances.
